Tardis Cake!!!

For my wonderful fiance's birthday I decided to create this equally awesome TARDIS cake.  I used a simple vanilla cake recipe from best recipes (http://www.bestrecipes.com.au/recipe/Basic-Butter-Cake-L2239.html).  I've made a couple of cakes using this recipe and while I can't eat it everyone tells me it's delicious.  I used a loaf tin to create the rectangular shape because it was the closest thing I had to a TARDIS shaped tin.  While I was waiting for the cake to bake, I rolled out some white fondant and cut 2 rectangular shapes the same size and one smaller squarish section.  Using a toothpick and some black food colouring I created wavy lines on the square to represent the actual words.  I did the same to create the lines on the rectangles for the police box's windows.  I broke a small section off and coloured it black for the band at the top. Since its way to hard to write the white text on, I chose this section to put the candles in.  Using the remaining fondant, I mixed blue food dye in.  I tried to avoid mixing the colour in perfectly to create a marbled look that reminds me of the wood grain in the older versions of the TARDIS,  I then repeated the toothpick technique to fill in the rest of the detail.  Attaching the band and a blob of fondat for the light, my TARDIS is complete.  I hope you enjoy my latest creation :).

P.S. It's blue inside, I can't resist food dye

TIP: Wear rubber gloves for each colour when colouring the fondant. It saves your hands from being stained for days.

Valentine's Day 2011

These are seriously my favourite cupcakes ever. Delicious, pretty and awesomely creative in a simple way in my opinion.  So, these are delicious TOBLERONE cupcakes that I made for our 'romantic' (it rained like the weather god was angry at EVERYONE and everything) beach picnic.  I had an abundance of toblerone chilling around and couldn't think of any way to use it. Then, it came to me, cupcakes!  So I may have doubled the amount of toblerone in these and can give you the recipe if you so desire.  They were so moist and I honestly wish I could still eat chocolate and gluten...I topped them with heart shaped candies to signify the Valentininess of it all and I love them to bits! They are honestly the perfect addition to any romantic picnic or occasion.

A 'creative' endeavour into a birthday cake

Ok, so I may not be perfect but we can't blame the wonky cake on me.  It was made by someone else and in a dodgy oven. However, I embarked on a mission...early 2011 once again...to create a musical themed cake for my cousin.  After gleefully destroying a set of earphones from Sam's Warehouse, I managed to create this.  There's actually quite a few of the fondant musical notes in different styles around the other side of the cake.  The children loved eating the letters in Cayla's name even if the cake itself was an utter failure on the inside.  If you've ever tried to colour something with black food colouring, you'll know it was an achievement to get it so dark.  So, embrace the cake.

Australia Day cupcakes 2011

So, sadly I don't have any pictures of the inside of my super duper cuppy cakes.  If I recall correctly, the ones with the icing flags were red cake, the blue ones were blue swirly cake and the green ones were...well, green.  Just for the record, the icing flag cakes were...not satisfactory but I found a different cake recipe which has always been a success and makes a perfect 12 cupcakes.
